An Unforgettable Set of Remixes

Finally we get to have this amazing collection of remixes from the best name in vocal trance, OceanLab. A lot of these remixes have already been released, however, so check out the original singles they were released on to get more. The new remixes (tracks 1-4, 6, 9, 11, 12, and 21) are all phenomenal, though my two favorites are the Michael Cassette remix of "Come Home" and Gareth Emery's take on "Lonely Girl", both beautiful. The album only tracks have already been released (except the Ronski Speed Remix of "Lonely Girl", which is a bit annoying) so no loss there. Other must have remixes from here are Daniel Kandi's Remix, Martin Roth's "Miracle" reworking, the dark Cosmic Gate mix of "Sirens of the Sea", and Michael Cassette's dreamy remix of "Miracle". So happy that this collection made it to iTunes. OceanLab continue to establish themselves as the leading producers of vocal trance heaven.

Pretty Good Set of Remixes

The original album of Sirens of the Sea featured some great tracks. However, I'm sure many people were expecting a full-out trance album (I was one of those people), and were slightly dissappointed. However, this is the edition of Sirens of the Sea where the trance comes back. An all-star cast of remixers breathe in some variety to the chilled-out, summery tracks of the original album. This collection features a few boring remixes and a few classic remixes that most fans probably already have, however, the outstanding other remixes here save this album. 1. If I Could Fly (Jaytech Remix) - An electric yet breezy remix that picks up around the chorus and second verse. 2. Come Home (Michael Cassette Remix) - In my opinion the best new remix of the album. Following the typical Michael Cassette sound, this remix features a chilling breakdown. The only problem is that it is a bit repetitive after the second verse. 3. On the Beach (Andy Duguid Remix) - A summery party anthem of a remix. It actually does work, though, despite the calmness of the original. 4. Lonely Girl (Gareth Emery Remix) - I'm pretty dissappointed with this, with all of the hype surrounding it. Probably the best part of the track can be heard in the iTunes preview. The vocal editing is interesting, but otherwise I prefer the original. 5. On a Good Day (A&B Club Mix) - The original of this track was my favorite on the original Sirens of the Sea album, and unfortunately the A&B mix does not compare to it. The dark moodiness of the original is lost, which made it such a powerful track. 6. I Am What I Am (Lange Remix) - The driving beat is the best part of this remix. The song in general is a bit strange, but Lange does his best, providing a dark trance remix. 7. Breaking Ties (A&B Analogue Haven Mix) - Having heard this last summer (2008, when the original album came out), I was eagerly anticipating the release of this remix. It's dark, the lyrics are beautiful, and the vocals, as always, are outstanding. Another favorite. 8. Miracle (A&B Club Mix) - A beautiful, uplifting remix of a song with a powerful message. This was one of my favorite tunes of last summer. 9. Ashes (Oliver Smith Remix) - Another great remix that uses sounds from the original to full effect. 10. Sirens of the Sea (A&B Club Mix) - This one has summer written all over it. Like the other A&B club mixes, it's very uplifting. It vastly improves on the original. 11. Secret (Andrew Bayer Remix) - More great vocal editing, which can be heard in the iTunes preview. To me the best electro-flavored remix here. 12. Just Listen (Myon & Shane 54 Remix) - Despite the fact that the remix is pretty anticlimatic after the breakdown, the breakdown is really intense. One of the best Myon & Shane 54 remixes out there. 13. On a Good Day (16 Bit Lolitas Remix) - A chilled-out remix also featured on the compilation Anjunadeep01. It doesn't compare to the original, though. 14. Miracle (Michael Cassette Remix) - Like his remix of "Come Home", this remake of "Miracle" is really beautiful and improves on the original. Other than the A&B Club Mix, this is the best remix on the "Miracle" single. 15. Sirens of the Sea (Sonorous Remix) - A surprisingly boring take on the track. 16. Breaking Ties (Duderstadt Remix) - Not nearly as good as the A&B Club Mix. 17. Satellite (A&B Club Mix) - Come on, it's a classic, and remains Oceanlab's best track yet. If you don't already have it, download it now. 18. Sky Falls Down (Armin van Buuren Remix) - Another old remix of an older Oceanlab track. However, the original version of this track is much better than Armin's remix. This remix is pretty dissappointing. 19. Clear Blue Water (Ferry Corsten Remix) - Another classic. Ferry Corsten greatly improves on the original version of Oceanlab's first single. 20. Beautiful Together (Signum Remix) - The best remix of "Beautiful Together", one of Oceanlab's older (but not as interesting) tracks. Buy this version of the Signum Remix though, as the version from the single has pretty poor quality. Hopefully it is better on this album. 21. Lonely Girl (Ronski Speed Remix) - A decent remix. Pretty on par with Gareth Emery's. 22. On a Good Day (Daniel Kandi Remix) - The best remix of this track. Daniel Kandi beats even Above & Beyond's remix of "On a Good Day" with this powerful, uplifting version. 23. Breaking Ties (Jaytech vs. James Grant Remix) - Pretty boring, really. Maybe I'm just used to the beauty of the A&B Club Mix, but even the breakdown pales in comparison. 24. Miracle (Martin Roth Remix) - There's something subtle about this remix that makes it stand out. Even though the Michael Cassette Remix takes a lot of the credit on the remix package, this is another great remix of the track to check out. One of Martin Roth's best recent remixes. 25. Sirens of the Sea (Cosmic Gate Vocal Mix) - Another uninteresting remix. Stick with the A&B Club Mix of this track. If you love vocal trance or need a trancey summer soundtrack, then download this album. Of course, there are a bunch of remixes here that are a waste of time, but if you stick with the better ones here you will be satisfied. Favorites? "Come Home (Michael Cassette Remix)", "Just Listen (Myon & Shane 54 Remix)", and the Above & Beyond remixes of "Miracle", "Sirens of the Sea", and "Satellite".

Best Group at the International Dance Music Awards

I've been looking for a Miracle. This Lonely Girl can tell you If I could Fly, I would. On a good day direclty to Above & Beyond and meet them on the Beach. The party would break bread and Break Ties with Gareth, Michael, Martin, Lange, Oliver,Jaytech and the ever-brilliant Andy Duguid. Just listen to the most brilliant collection of remixes by anyone, truly Sirens of the Sea. I've been crying Ashes and this is no Secret, a sick mixture of tones that will excite every being and every extremity available. Thanks to A&B, Oceanlab and all of the amazing DJ's on this compilation. Godspeed.
