iTunes Review

Five years after The Black and White Album, which found the group collaborating with Pharrell Williams, The Hives are back at full force, playing their trashy garage-punk rock with their usual abandon. "Come On" is 68 seconds of the group yelling "Come on!" Such cheekiness is The Hives' calling card. They buzz with energy through the new wave groove of "Wait a Minute" and the Joan "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" Jett power chords of "I Want More." "Take Back the Toys" adds a strutting step that evokes memories of The New York Dolls while cruising into the future with a vocal track that's grittily altered by production effects. Several tunes blast past in less than two minutes, with "These Spectacles Reveal the Nostalgics" recalling the wistful feel of classic '60s girl-group pop. "My Time Is Coming" starts with a creepy vocal and keyboard before slashing the night. There isn't a false step here, just plenty of high-energy rock 'n' roll. The deluxe edition features two additional tracks: the pounding "High School Shuffle" and the manic "Insane."

Lex Hives review

Come On! Give this album a listen. It's quite worth it I promise. If I Had a Cent I would purchase it, but since I'm Without The Money at this particular moment in time I can't afford it right now. Being a Midnight Shifter, my pay hasn't come yet. But I assure you when my Patrolling Days are over I'm gonna Go Right Ahead and buy it. I've already listened to this spectacular album online, and if you asked me what the best part about it was I would have a 1000 Answers. Tell your mom to Take Back The Toys because once you get this album you'll have no time for such petty things, you'll be too busy listening to this phenomenal album! My Time Is Coming to hold this album in my hand I can tell. So, before you continue on with your internet adventures Wait a Minute, sit back, and listen because I'll tell you know it'll leave you saying I Want More. I'm wearing glasses right now and These Spectacles Reveal The Nostalgics, I keep thinking about the older The Hives albums and how great they were... Enough of that! On with this album! The Hives are law, You are Crime!

Love it!

Another great album from the HIVES!!!

Top of the line

The Hives at their very best.

Formed: 1993 in Fagersta, Sweden

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Eight years into their career, the Hives rose from garage rock stalwarts to one of the trendiest bands of the early 2000s, along with the Strokes and the White Stripes. Mixing arty contrivances such as a strict black-and-white dress code and the guidance of a (possibly imaginary) Svengali named Randy Fitzsimmons with Stooges-inspired rock, the Hives -- Nicholaus Arson, Chris Dangerous, Dr. Matt Destruction, Vigilante Carlstroem, and Howlin' Pelle Almqvist -- formed in 1993 in Fagersta, Sweden, while...
