Nate's frontman debut!

This is probably all biased, because I've loved foo fighters, nirvana, sunny day real estate, and pretty much everything from the members of foo fighters. I think it's amazing! Different sound for foo fighters, but It's really awesome. I hope Lieutenant is around for while!

Great album from the man who needed to step into the light

This album is one of the greatest and yet strangest albums I've heard in a while. Nate Mendel is obviously the bass player for The Foo Fighters, but out of all the members I realized recently that Nate was the one I knew the least about. He never sings with the Foo Fighters on even backup except once or twice live. He's rarely heard singing at all. For this album I didn't know what to expect from a person who I knew of but hadn't heard sing or even wright any music. What I can say is that it is a phenomenal album full of guests and great original songs. What I can say is that the album didn't remind me of anything like the Foo Fighters or Sunny Day Real Estate. So if that's what you're looking for sorry. However this album is full of peaceful music that flows together very well and shows that he isn't just the bass player for the Foo fighters. He is a musician in his own right and deserves respect for being himself and not the guy behind Dave Grohl who no one ever hears. He has a voice and uses it on this album to show his skills and songwriting abilities. The album surprisingly reminded me a lot of something like Arcade Fire with the distant sounds, peaceful feel, and overall beautiful sounds. This is not a hard rock album like most would expect but Nate Mendel proves that he is a musician that doesn't need to live in the shadows anymore.

A Good Concept Album

It seems as if Nate went in completely the other direction from his musical partners. In a great way.
With choruses change the key of the song and vise versa.
He shows that space can give you a full sound feel.
He adds mono melody which is my favorite type of singing. The stand out track (for me) is "Artificial Limbs".
The song structures and instrumentation seems to be at the forefront of the record. If there is going to be a follow up, then it's fine to say that is one hell of a debut.
