Album Review

Born in Kentucky, Stacey is the son of a minister who was enlisted in the Navy when he auditioned for Idol, and during that very audition his wife gave birth to their second daughter — in other words, he seemed to cover all the crucial bases of country music, from love of God and family to love of his country. Produced by Wayne Kirkpatrick — a professional songwriter and producer who has helmed albums by Amy Grant, Little Big Town, Wynonna Judd, and Michael W. Smith — Phil Stacey wisely opts out of hardcore country in favor of a crossover sound heavily inspired by Rascal Flatts, whose leader, Gary LeVox, co-wrote the first single here, "If You Didn't Love Me."

Worth the Wait

I was a huge fan of Phil's on AI and have been excitedly waiting for this album to come out. When he performed during country week last year, it was by far his best performance. Country is definitely his genre. He has great vocals, foot-tapping songs and creative improvisation. My favorites are "It's Who You Know", "Looking Like Love" and "Identity". For $7.99 you can't go wrong buying this album - especially if you love country music!

Go Phil

Phil was my favorite from last season. I knew he wouldn't win because he doesn't look the part of an idol and the show is powered by the voting power of teenage girls, but, after country week I pretty much knew that he'd get picked up by Lyric Street (like Josh and Bucky before him) and have a decent career. This albums great and he's a really likable guy.

Stacey Has The Goods...

I've always thought Phil had a great voice. Even more, he understands and interprets lyrics so well. That is a gift in itself. There is a lot of good material here. It kinda reminds of Bruce Hornsby in spots, who I love. While I don't listen to country music much, I really like this record. I hope it is a big success for him. It would be great to see the nice guy finish first.

Phil Stacey's first appearance on the sixth season of American Idol was a memorable one, as it was revealed that the Navy officer was missing the birth of his second daughter in order to audition for the show in Memphis. It was a memorable introduction to the American public, presenting the Jacksonville, FL, native in a very appealing light. Of course, it helped that Stacey -- age 29 at the start of the show in 2007 -- had one of the strongest backstories of any of the Top 24 contestants. The son...
