iTunes Review

Two decades after “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” made her famous, Cyndi Lauper reintroduced herself as a sophisticated chanteuse on 2003’s At Last. Actually, her make-over wasn’t as radical as might first appear — there’d always been a bit of the old-fashioned show-biz trooper in her comic-yet-sentimental style. Lauper mostly pulls off the challenge of tackling a diverse mix of Tin Pan Alley, old school R&B and vintage rock songs, thanks to her formidable vocal pipes and ultra-vivid personality. She kicks up her heels imagining “The Sunny Side of The Street” as a ska tune and getting a Latin groove going on “Stay.” But it’s the album’s ballads that are truly exceptional. It took chutzpah to turn Jacques Brel’s “If You Go Away” into a stark exercise in angst or to invoke the shade of Laura Nyro for a tormented reading of the Bacharach/David classic “Walk On By.” Not all tracks work equally well, but Cyndi impresses far more than she disappoints and proves herself a gifted song interpreter in the classic pop mode.

at last

Cyndi at her best. Her small concert venues are outstanding and this is one of the best.At Last/Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood/On The Sunny Side of the Street are pure Cyndi!

A great talent with an amazing and highly under rated voice. Fans and skeptics alike will be impressed with this collection of standards. I've had the pleasure of seeing Cindi perfom live on several occasions through the years - the Girls Just Want To Have Fun Tour, Gay Pride NY, as Cher's opening act and recently in an old theatre. She never fails to entertain and impress. Her live performances and this CD are defnitely worth every $.

Helps love breathe

This album is why I am a Cyndi Lauper listener. I love her voice and the unique passion she imparts to lyrics and melodies. She is amazing and the title of this album represents my sentiments perfectly. At Last! Although some knew her work as 'cute', this album proves that she is remarkably beautiful. Thanks for this album, Cyndi.

Cyndi Lauper was one of the biggest stars of the early MTV era, selling five-million copies of her debut album, She's So Unusual, as well as scoring a string of four Top Ten hits from the record, including the major hits "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "Time After Time." Lauper's thin, girlish voice and gleefully ragtag appearance became one of the most distinctive images of the early '80s, which helped lead her not only to the top of the charts, but also to stardom. Throughout America, there were...
