iTunes Review

Shinedown wrote 40 songs for The Sound Of Madness, picking 11 of the best to make the cut. Then they road tested four favorites, measuring audience reactions to gauge which two were hit worthy. "Devour" won in spades, followed by the title track. Throwing relentless punches and loaded with razor sharp hooks, "Devour" sets the tone with such victorious ferocity that it was licensed as the theme song for World Wrestling Entertainment's June, 2008 pay-per-view event, Night of Champions, as well as the soundtrack to EA Sports' "Madden NFL 09" video game, in addition to which it was chosen to be featured on ESPN throughout the 2008 major league baseball season. A pounding bass drum and sinister guitar riff begin "Sound Of Madness" as sneering singer Brent Smith rallies young outcasts and deserters. If every angry pariah listened to this call to arms simultaneously, there could be riots and fires in the streets. That an album this heavy and angry hit mainstream radio tells you something about the troubled times, circa summer 2008. From the three bonus cuts, "Energy" is the most driving, "I Own You" is the catchiest and "Son Of Sam" sounds tough as nails.

Third Time is a Charm

With their third album Shinedown has truly made a masterpiece. Shinedown is known for amazin lyrics and vocals with strong instrumentals to back that all up. This release just furthers their legendary run. Their first single "Devour" hits fast and hard, but this album truly shines with their slower and more lyrically deep songs. "Second Chance", "The Crow & the Butterfly", "Breaking Inside", and "Call Me" are all simply amazing. This album is not all about amazing vocals and lyrics, but strong and intricate instrumentals as well. Shinedown is truly a band of the ages and will continue to push their music to the edge, and succed at that. This album has so many hits lined up for the second half of the year. By far the best album I have downloaded this year, you will in no way regret this purchase. Thank you Shinedown for another masterpiece.

Wow

What a fantastic cd. I thought they would never be able to top their first cd. Don't get me wrong, their second cd was great, it just didn't compare to the first one. But now I believe they have exceded their first effort. This cd rocks! Its fast and furious with just enough soft songs to even it all out. This is the first cd i've heard in years where I absolutely loved each song the first time i heard them. This cd does not require multiple listens. You will love it the first time you hear it. Every song sounds like a single. Must downloads if you have to choose: Devour 5/5, Sound of madness5/5, Second Chance5/5, Crow and the butterfly 5/5, If you only knew 5/5.....forget it just get 'em all. The music industry needs more bands like this, best cd since Alter Bridges "BlackBird"
