Customer Reviews

The 29 songs on this CD give you EVERY Jo Stafford Top 20 hit from December, 1950 through March, 1957 [and NO filler cuts either]. And these are the original Columbia recordings in good fidelity. Three songs here have slightly different titles than their hit versions: "A-Round The Corner", "Tonight We're Setting The Woods On Fire" and "[Now And Then There's] A Fool Such As I" are all their original, hit versions despite the slightly altered titles below. Buy this and the "Capitol Collectors Series" CD to complete your Jo Stafford hits collection!

Vintage music that still needs to be heard.

Jo Stafford is still one of the great singers in the history of American pop music. Although many of today's generation doesn't even know who she was, many who went through the World War II generation know. This collection is focuses on the music she did in the 50's after leaving Capitol Records. Some of these charted very big like "You Belong to Me", "Shrimp Boats", and "Jambalaya". This is a collection worth listening to. I have been waiting for a collection of the Columbia years. It is good to see that iTunes is not ignoring the earlier generations of music.

My time or not

My folks played this music on 45s and 33's all the time while I was growing up. So I guess this music is of my time, my Son also at age 34 also listens to Jo. I guess this is music of his time as well. 

One of the most technically gifted and popular vocalists of the immediate postwar period, Jo Stafford effortlessly walked the line between breezy pop and the more serious art of post-big-band jazz singing. With the help of her husband, top-flight arranger and Capitol A&R director Paul Weston, Stafford recorded throughout the '40s and '50s for Capitol and Columbia. She also contributed (with Weston) to one of the...
