iTunes Review

There are no feel-good Nashville-style hits here — even the relatively upbeat tunes have a bittersweet tinge to them. Instead, Nail draws upon his career frustrations and rocky romantic history to create a song collection of unusual soulfulness. The Missouri-born singer writes and selects tunes that avoid the familiar celebrations of drunken honky-tonk nights and blissful family life. Instead, he gravitates towards troubled love songs (“Red Light,” the title tune), nostalgic small-town sketches (“Summer Job Days,” “Turning Home”), and wistful road numbers (“Again”). His clear, slightly ache-inflected vocals take on a blues tinge, especially for the elegiac “Mississippi” (co-written by Allman Brothers keyboardist Chuck Leavell), and he displays some Rodney Crowell-like drive on “This Time Around.” The standout track is “Missouri,” a gracefully devastating account of failure and loss. Nail doesn’t mind telling stories on himself — it’s a source of his artistic strength. By keeping things real and a little painful, he makes I’m About to Come Alive into an unexpected triumph.

Amazing

I don't even normally like country music but David Nail is an exception, he's really good. If you only get one song then buy Red Light, its super catchy and has a good story to it.

David Nail new album is amazing!

David Nail's new album "I'm About To Come Alive" including the first hit single "Red Light" is absolutely the best piece of country music that I have purchased this year. It's just one of those CDs that you can turn on in the car and forget about everything else that's going on in the world around you and get lost in the music. Every single song on this album has something that everyday people can relate to and connect with. Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts co-wrote the song "Summer Job Days" and Kenny Chesney helped pen "Turning Home", which both gave the CD an extra edge. However, the best song on the album by far is "Strangers on a Train." The song talks about the real life emotions that come along with fantasizing about someone and how your life could have been different. David Nail is certainly destined for big things in his career. The songs are real, his voice is moving, and this album is an A+!

DAVID NAIL IS AWESOME!

Oh my gosh...I have been waiting for this day for so long. David Nail's album is out, and dont hesitate to get it. With such a unique voice, he is one of country's rising stars. If you've only listened to his singles im about to come alive and red light, try other songs like strangers on a train and again. I cant wait til this guy is big!

He received a few college offers to play baseball, but chose to go with music instead, and moved to Nashville. Music City was just too overwhelming the first time around, and he was back home in Missouri within a year. He tried...
