The Muppet Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Music has always been the Muppets' métier; on their ‘70s TV series this usually involved wacky send-ups of Top 40 hits and pop standards. But for their first feature-length film in 1978, songwriter Paul Williams (The Carpenters' “We’ve Only Just Begun,” “Rainy Days and Mondays”) and arranger Kenny Ascher (Helen Reddy's “You and Me Against the World”) composed a set of songs that scored them a gold record and two Oscar® nominations. Kermit's wistful "Rainbow Connection" is the karaoke-staple standout, but Miss Piggy’s voice-cracking “Never Before, Never Again" and Gonzo's surprising tearjerker "I'm Going to Go Back There Someday" prove that there's a human heart beating underneath all that furry felt.
