iTunes Review

Before he became a legendary, mind-blowingly smooth soul singer, Sam Cooke was a clear-voiced gospel troubadour, joining with his group The Soul Stirrers for vocal pyrotechnics, sanctified singing, and rousing gospel truths. This collection pulls together 25 classics, ranging from a cappella workouts to organ-led church jams to songs that more closely resemble mainstream pop. The common threads: stirring gospel harmonies and lyrics of deep Christian devotion. “Farther Along,” somehow smooth and gritty at the same time, and a wailing “Touch the Hem of His Garment” are standouts.

I'm in LOVE. Soo much soul. Peace In the valley...

Sam, is a master, god rest his soul. Speaking of soul, he sure as heck has it on this CD as he always does! He is simply the best.

The King of Soul

Sam Cooke is completely unmatched in the history of soul singers. He rock a swinging dance song like "Twistin'," a beautiful song about social change ("Change 'Gon Come" of course) or love/gospel music with the Soul Stirrers. It's such a shame that he died so young. Beautiful voice and an incredible ability to sing soul music. Rest In Peace Sam.

Yet, those business interests didn't prevent him from being engaged in...
