Customer Reviews

Beautifully performed, excellent recording

This is a great compilation and the audio quality is excellent.

Delightful Album

I bought the original LP of this album in 1973 and I'm delighted that it is now available online. This was a benchmark Debussy recording by Michelangeli before Zotan Kocsis made his Debussy recordings in the 1980s. I learned how to play Children's Corner after I listened to this recording. It remains a top choice today.

Incredible Disc

I highly recommend this recording to all. The pianist playing has done and incredible job.

In addition if you enjoyed this album, it is easy to see the impression that the virtiousic and wonderful composer Charles-Valentin Alkan left on Debussy. I would say buy this album as well as an album titled "Alkan: Esquisses, Op. 63" (which literally translates to sketches) and compare and contrast the two albumes. Both evoke sets of wonderful imagery. The "Esquisses" are just as beautiful. I always heard about how much Alkan had influenced Debussy, but I had never actually head the images before. Therefore, if you like this, get the other album also.

Michelangeli was born on January 5, 1920, in Orzinuovi, Italy. His father was a dedicated amateur musician who introduced young Benedetti to the art. After early studies...
