Who is Michael Nastos?

First let me say What the h@!!! is Mr. Nastos talking about? It is very clear to me he is hearing and not listening to the music. With that said this is closer to jazz-funk with a little fusion mixed in on Cosmic Reign. This is the first jazz album that I ever owned. I was 14 when I got it and in AC NJ they played some of these cuts on the radio. The funk flavor was what attracted me to it. Mr Sample and company were always versatile in their approach and exacting with their skills and lines. This is a CLASSIC in every sense of the word.

This man obviously is not familiar with the innovating style that is the Crusaders name. They brought funk to real jazz, and opened up a new genre to all players. Wilton Felder, Stix Hooper….Joe Sample…and all that have played with the group bring such passion to the music, it shows in every song. No long drawn out solos here, but nice, crisp emotion filled tunes, that beg to be listened to over and over.
One of my favorites when it was on vinyl, by the Crusaders…I just wish Wayne Henderson, Stix Hoopper, Joe Sample and Wilton Felder could all kiss and make up so we would have a true Crusaders reunion!

Michael G. Nastos is an idiot!

I have to agree with the other reviewers in that Michael Nasty didn't take the time to actually listen to this album. "Snowflake" too lively? What was he expecting? Maybe he should have called up the band members and have them re-record the tune to fit his standards but with the recent passing of Joe Sample (RIP) it's too late for that now. On a further note, the Bill Withers hit song with Grover Washington, Jr. was released two years after this album came out. Michael, do some more research before continuing with further album reviews. You sir are the lowest common denominator.

Back in 1954, Houston pianist Joe Sample teamed up with high school friends tenor saxophonist Wilton Felder and drummer Stix Hooper to form the Swingsters. Within a short time, they were joined by trombonist Wayne Henderson, flutist Hubert Laws, and bassist Henry Wilson and the group became the Modern Jazz Sextet. With the move of Sample, Felder, Hooper, and Henderson to Los Angeles in 1960, the band (a quintet with the bass spot constantly changing) took on the name of the Jazz Crusaders. The following...
