what a disappointment...

…one of favorite bands, but this is their weakest work yet. their 2001 release, Radio Tsidas, remains a classic.

Tinariwen is a blessing to music.

I have followed Tinariwen ever since a friend shared the album Aman Iman (“Water is Life”) with me. Not only is Tinariwen an incredibly insightful and talented group of musicians, but their music serves both a respectable and social responsible purpose. The story behind Tinariwen is worth every listener’s attention.

Tinariwen is a Tuareg group that performs a guitar-centric branch of Malian music that, to the untrained ear, is reminiscent of Ali Farka Touré's, but is far more rock-oriented and percussive. All of the band's musicians originate from the southern Sahara; the group's name, meaning "empty places," is a reflection of their land of origin.
