Album Review

The mighty Gwar returns in 2001 with their eighth sonic sex-and-splatter-fest, The Violence Has Arrived. Although Gwar's albums have always served mainly as soundtracks to their comic performance-art concerts, the band does actually take their music seriously enough to make well-executed records. The Violence Has Arrived predictably doesn't reveal any new shades or dimensions to Gwar, but dependably continues the band's tradition of self-parodic, '80s-style heavy metal, lyrically wallowing in ridiculously over-the-top gore, sexual perversions, and other tastelessness. Sample lyric: "Your beauty makes me sick/I'd rather f*ck a troll/Kick you in the head/Vomit in the hole." Needless to say, not for the squeamish.

So I never thought it would come to this.. 4 out of 5 stars for Gwar. It's a sad day. I think if you like other metal, traditional metal, then you'll love this.. but that's the problem I'm having with this album. I don't like other music... pretty much just Gwar. Sounds weird right? Not really when you understand that Gwar is the best band ever and you can't really get tired of hearing something so good over and over for years. But the best way I can think to make you understand how I feel about this album is; Imagine living your whole life thinking your dad was your dad, then one day SUPRISE! your mom lied and your real dad lives in some really crappy city as a bum. Boo Hoo.. But it's your lucky day, Gwar has come out with a new album that sends them back to their roots.. Lust In Space.. check that one out and learn to love your bum father!

Definatly one of Gwar's best albums. Every single song is amazing, I highly recommend it.

GWAR (popularly thought to be an acronym for God What an Awful Racket, despite the band's protests to the contrary) are thrash metal's answer to the more mainstream satire of Spinal Tap. Gory, sexually perverse, and scatological in the extreme, GWAR were formed at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond as an experiment in marketing strategy by several musicians, art students, and dancers. The group claimed to consist of all-powerful interplanetary warriors, descended from aliens stranded in...
