iTunes Review

A collaborative triumph from two giants of New York indie rock. I Had A Dream That You Were Mine sees The Walkmen frontman and former Vampire Weekend multi-instrumentalist/producer unite for an album of rollicking rock and doo-wop (“Rough Going”), haunting folk (“In a Black Out”), and iridescent pop (“1959”)—all covered in flourishes and fingerprints only they can leave.

So Genuine

This guy sounds like he just walked right out of another era. His music has a mind, heart, and soul - I heard it immediately. Wow. I hope he does well. This is truly beautiful. I haven't heard something this genuine to my ear and heart in a while. Very nice.

Tremendous

If Bob Dylan could actually sing, it would sound like this... Only not as good.

HL + Rostam = 5 stars

I got my copy of the album early and I'm on my 4th listening through it. HL (as I like to call him) seems so far removed from The Walkmen, and I mean that in a good way. This album seems like HL and Rostam (I don't have a nickname for Rostam... yet) seem to be channeling Paul Simon, doo wop groups, Harry Nilsson, and boozy piano bar music. It's just a fun and touch album. The close, 1959, featuring Angel Deradoorian (AD, as I will call her if I'm pressed for time), is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I can't recommend this album enough.

Recorded at Los Angeles' Vox Studios, Leithauser's debut album Black Hours -- which was...
