Sheer Power and Brilliance

Freddie recorded two tracks for the West End cast album for Dave Clark's musical Time. The title track, and this gem. According to Dave Clark, Freddie nailed this recording in one take. It is amazing. His power, range, and nuance in this performance is just jaw-dropping. When needed, he sounds vulnerable, with the sincerity of someone pleading his case, then in an instant, he turns on the power that can bring down a building. He just brings it home an lives up to the title of one of (if not the greatest) singers, vocalists of the last 100 years.

One of the things I love most about Freddie Mercury was his ability to convey such poignant emotion in his recordings; it's second to none. You not only listen to the words he sings, but also feel them. This song is no exception! It's perfection, and it's a shame that his solo work is so difficult to find today!

Born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946, in Zanzibar to Persian parents (his father worked as a high court cashier for the British government), young Farrokh...
