(Pharrell - Chad) + Bling Rap = 3.5 Stars

Huge Neptunes and N.E.R.D. fan. Kinda let down by Pharrell on this one. Since when is everything out of his mouth about diamonds and Rolls Royces?? Is this really the same guy who sang "lemons and limes are fighting over straws like they were oil-filled pipes", or even the the layered verse from the Maybe remix from the Clinton Sparks mixtape? Definately not the vibe I listen to him for. The rap songs sound like he wants to be the Clipse 3rd member. The smoother R&B songs, however are outstanding. No complaints there. As far as production, now the world will FINALLY see just how important Chad Hugo was to the Neptunes equation. Nothing classic, but still pretty good.

Nullum magnum ingenium sine mixtura dementiae fuit

"There has not been any great talent without an element of madness". - Seneca When Seneca said this, he must have been contemplating the creation of what would become Pharrell "Skateboard P" Williams' solo debut. After riding on what he calls his "roller coaster" for almost a year, giving us a taste of what Pharrell had to offer became almost second nature to his cult-like fans. From getting a peak of his album with videos from Gwen Stefani, Kayne West and Robin Thicke; dropping dope tracks with his VA Family The Clipse and Famlay, to logging on Myspace everyday to see if updated his profile with any new tracks...we can finally say that Pharrell Williams is the King of Suspense and has unleased his ultimate madness to the world. We were already laced with the platinum tracks 'Can I Have It Like That', 'Angel', and 'Number One'; his Gangsta Grillz Exclusive 'BBCICECREAM.COM' with the Infamous DJ Drama of The Aphilliates; but now with cold tracks like 'Stay With Me' and 'You Can Do It Too', you will definitely see fans get high off this long-awaited "crystallized dream", and it tastes way better than just 'Ice Cream'. P never fails at staying true to his "Willy Wonka" philosophy - he consistently challenges his fans and critics to open our minds and see the music, feel the music, be the music. From simple to complex beats, hot to cold treats, Pharrell's 'In My Mind' will definitely take you beyond the limits -- over the lines of just what we know as 'standard', and puts us in his world. From seeing the success of his exclusive, international clothing line BBC/Ice Cream sellout in boutiques everywhere - you will definitely see 'In My Mind' do nothing less but the same. If you try to sleep on this album, you still won't be able to escape this 'dream turned reality' of an artist -- a mind, an individual -- Mr. Pharrell Williams.

Suprisingly Dissapointing.

Being a fan of Pharrell and his work, being from VA and being able to relate somewhat to his musical taste and experiences I am surprisingly dissapointed. I can't hate on one's will or want to create. One's need to push boundaries and to try things new, but objectively speaking Pharrell should stick to singing hooks, ghost writing for others and most importantly making tracks. I do applaude his effort and being somewhat positive overall, but save your money. Producers and producers should not make whack songs and pawn them off as great works of art. Kayne chill.
