iTunes Review

Kicked off by the Gwen Stefani-featuring electro-funk single “Can I Have It Like That,” Pharrell Williams' debut solo album bears all the hallmarks of his chart-slaying, forward-thinking production style. There's undulating, spacious hip-hop on the playful “Raspy S**t,” and “Angel” is a falsetto-led R&B throwback. But it’s on the frenetic “How Does It Feel?” where Pharrell puts it all on display: the head-spinning mélange of marching drums, blaring horns, and the super-producer’s tightly coiled raps nicely reflect his confident first outing.

Pharrell and Company Get It Done

If your looking for a rap sound that not all about the B****** and the h***, and riding rims and making that cash money...this is a great album. it's more of a laid-back rap style instead of fast-paced bump and grind music. THe best song here is Number One Featuring Kanye West, its catchy and is a great song. You must by the full album, because the instrumental sounds amazing and you can put your own words into it. Good Album.

Listen, Pharrell couldn't produce a bad album if he tried. He's responsible for more hits than Babe Ruth. Artists (well, most of them are) come to him to produce a hit, and he knocks it way out of the park every single time. He's a musical prodigy, and has already proved it to the world while producing for others, and has proven his diversity on the 2 N.E.R.D. albums. He's got it all down, heavy guitar driven rock, R&B, rap, and could probably do country if he wanted (but let's pray that NEVER happens). And now, like most musical geniuses (Prince comes to mind), he's going to be misunderstood with this solo debut. Sure there are a couple of "instant hits" on the disc, but a lot of it is much deeper and requires a few run throughs of the disc to understand the songs the way he wanted them to be understood. Most knuckleheads will listen to it once, won't recognize or understand what they're hearing on a lot of the tracks, and too many people aren't patient enough to give it even a second run through, so they'll write it off as weak or something. It also helps to be able to spell and be somewhat literate for a lot of these reviews that flame the album to be taken seriously. I mean, look at some of these reviews. I wouldn't trust some of these people to tell me the sky is blue. BUY THIS ALBUM!!!

Pharrell offers his most creative work on his solo debut.

We all know about Pharrell's famous work with his partner in crime, Chad, as the Neptunes. We know about his countless hooks and appearances on numerous hits over the last 7 years. Now it is his time to shine in the spotlight alone. Pharrell proved on this album that he is one of the most creative and innovative producers/artists out there. Divided into 1/2 Hip-Hop and 1/2 R&B, In My Mind is one of the most mellow CD's of the year. I'll admit, some songs will have to grow on you, but just run-through the CD and you'll find something to love. I just bought the CD today and I absolutely love it (sans the mediocre song 'Baby' with Nelly at his worst). My favorite song is 'Number One' with Kanye West because it is just so chill and Kanye, while talking a little too much, is still fire. Do yourself a favor and give In My Mind a chance. It's one of the most original Hip-Hop CD's on the market right now.
