41 Songs, 2 Hours 4 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

It didn't last long, but for a time in 2012 The Beach Boys looked past their disagreements and reunited for a tour celebrating the good vibrations of their timeless music as the band turned 50. The group's 2012 studio album That's Why God Made the Radio showed The Beach Boys in prime form, with new songs worthy of their legacy. That infectious energy dominates this adventurous 41-track live album. Opening with the 1968 single "Do It Again" (which appeared on 1969's 20/20 album) and cruising through a set that includes the upbeat "Little Honda" and "Surfin' Safari" before slowing down for the introspective "Surfer Girl" and "The Little Girl I Once Knew," the Boys hit the mark from the start. The setlist is an embarrassment of riches. "Wendy," "I Get Around," "In My Room," "God Only Knows," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "Good Vibrations," and "California Girls" are among their best-known songs. "Getcha Back," Bruce Johnston's "Disney Girls," Al Jardine's "California Saga: California," and Dennis Wilson's "Forever" are among the deep fan favorites. Solidarity among the members didn't last long, but it was long enough for this exciting set.

Classic

While there is a lot of "hub bub" about that other band from "across the pond" celebrating their 50th anniversary, here we have a true American band who has been with us through thick and thin. Irrespective of the "naysayers" who can't help themselves from criticizing, this is simply a delightful album. All of the classics are here and performed more than admirably. Regrettably, while we as fans continue to support the Boys, it is a shame that they haven't been able to get their collective act together, set aside their differences and just play. We all love love, always have and always will!

Finally! A True Representation of Their Live Shows!!!

Finally! A LIVE Beach Boys release that is actually a true representation of their great live shows! I've seen the Beach Boys many times over the last couple of decades and they have always put on a great live show! However, I've always felt that none of the live albums really captured the great live concerts that they have always given us. Most of the previous live albums suffered from poor sound quality, poor mixing, abbreviated set lists, and sometimes barely audible vocals. This is the first collection I've heard that has a great and complete set list (very similar to the Beach Boys concerts I've seen in the last 25 years), very good sound quality, very good mixing, and great sounding vocals and instruments! Of course, it's an added bonus that we also have most of the original (and semi-original) members back together on this one, except for Dennis Wilson and Carl Wilson who passed away. Like many live albums that have come out over the years, it is possible that the album may have actually been done in the studio but made to sound exactly as if it were a live concert. That practice has always been fairly common. I have no idea if that's how this album was recorded, but one way or another this is a great album! It truly captures the fun, excitement, nostalia, and talent that all of the fans experience when attending a Beach Boys concert! The Beach Boys always sound great and put on a great concert!

Good live show

I was pleasantly surprised at how great they sound. However, I agree, I think a little studio mixing was added in on some of the songs. Over all, I really like the album. Glad I bought it. It's gonna be great later on this summer cruisin' down the 101 highway in my convertible with the top down!
