Exquisite songs, wonderful muscianship. My all time sleeper, "unknown" album by an artist the equal of Sebastian, Webb, and Young (Neil and Jesse Colin!). The emotional poeticism of the lyrics and sweet melodies will stay with you a long time, especially the gorgeous epic "American Roulette" title track.

worth every penny

This was my first taste of Danny O'Keefe; somehow I missed 'Goodtime Charlie sings the Blues' when it came out. So this album holds a special place in my heart. 'Islands' is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. I looked back, after hearing this album, picked up his entire catalogue and have kept current since then.
Beautiful voice with great range, super lyrics, a complete package of quality entertainment. Saw him live in Cambridge MA and enjoyed his humor. The only question is why there has never been a live release. If you like something a little rocky, sample The Hereafter or Plastic Saddle. You can't go wrong with this purchase.

I never tire of listening to American Roulette.

This album is a narrative of the times in which it was written, and yet it is still so timely, more than 30 years later. Poetry and songwriting that last through the decades, on the mark, true to a timeless heart.
