iTunes Review

Christian singer/songwriter Jill Phillips has built a loyal following thanks to her ability to find spiritual truths in the small but telling details of everyday existence. Her seventh album, In This Hour, is no exception; this time she zeroes in on themes that are both rooted in her life as a wife and mother and universal in resonance. Her vocals are wistful yet strong, well suited to conveying the mix of joy, melancholy, and resolve in her lyrics. As on her previous releases, Phillips doesn’t deliver neatly wrapped homilies or bludgeon nonbelievers with Scripture. Such tunes as “Show Up,” “That’s Not Who You Are,” and “I Can See How It Happened” accept human weakness while striving to understand the ways of grace. A number of the songs have the unguarded honesty of journal entries. “Next Big Thing” takes a clear-eyed look at the price of showbiz success, while “If You Were Here” reflects on the world her late father left behind. Cason Cooley’s acoustic-centered production keeps In This Hour uncluttered, letting the gentle wisdom of Phillips’ songs shine through with clarity.

Customer Reviews

It's a peach of a record. A peach I tell you.

Jill and Andy & friends have a magical way of creating music that's well crafted- thoughtfully written, skillfully arranged, performed and captured. Their latest offering, "In This Hour" cuts to the heart of the matter and delivers the goods. They serve it all up in such a way that it fits just fine in your living room as well as on a road trip and has never failed to inspire me. The message? Life is hard, but there is joy and hope in the journey. Buy this record and keep an eye open for more musical gems from these folks that are sure to come.

Buy it. You'll be glad you did…with no bitter aftertaste.

After giving it a listen, this album is exactly what I had hoped it would be. The production quality, musicianship, musical concepts and lyrics behind Jill and Andy's albums...while very subtle...reflect a pair of sensitive souls, living by faith, grappling with their faith in light of the realities of life and reflecting the eternal hope they have...without being preachy, predictable or crammed into a stylistic box. In a word, it's "real". Yes. I like her and the music that she and Andy craft. They are down-to-earth real people...raising life...real life with all of the dents and bruises...and making it work. The music on this album is a reflection of who they are and the hope they reflect into the lives of those of us fortunate enough to have discovered them.

Love Love Love this!

Jill your music is overwhelming and touches the heart so deeply. You've done it again! I am so proud of what you have accomplished! I'm ready for the next Kickstarter project when you are!!!!!!!
