Must have album in your collection.

I started appreciating Pt Bhimsen Joshi’d music in the 90’s. He was at the peak of his career and health and a typical concert would include three items like you see in this Album, that is a more than 70 minutes of performance.
Just when I thought I had most of the collections by Panditji out there, I came across this album. The Puriya Kalyan with the same cheez (or lyric) was recorded much earlier (in the 70’s and is available in an album called “Vocal Vol #5” or something like that) and has been my favorite for a long time. This one is recorded in the 90’s so the quality of the recording is much better. The second number is a Thumri and generally one is guaranteed a treat when anything is set in the Deepchandi taal. The third one is a longer version of the famous Bhajan. Panditji took the format of the bhajan to classical level.
P.S: This is a great label to look out for if you are a collector of Panditji’s music. Also most albums cost much more that this one, not sure why this one costs so less.

From early in his life he was driven by music, a drive which led him to leave home quite young. After many adventures he settled down studying with Sawai Gandharva of the Kirana gharana and one of the foremost students...
