Album Review

A consistently intriguing vocalist, Pyeng Threadgill is as much a folksinger as a jazz improviser. Influenced and inspired by Abbey Lincoln and to a lesser extent Sheila Jordan, Threadgill sings lyrics that she believes in, has no difficulty with complex melodies, and even contributes lyrics to Fats Waller's "Jitterbug Waltz," scatting well on "Ambrosia." While she is accompanied by strong improvisers, the focus throughout is on the singer, whose haunting voice and unusual phrasing makes her memorable while not fitting snugly into any specific musical genre.

Of the Air - Pyeng Threadgill

I saw this artist in person when she did a one night performance in Boston at Scullers Jazz Club during the summer of 2006. She has a voice that is clear and soulful leaving you spellbound and thirsty for more. This is great music to cuddle up to on a winter night, or for hosting a Weekend brunch or evening cocktail party with close friends; but by far the best time to play Pyeng Threadgill is when you want to feel like you are on top of the world !! Buy this and you will not be dissapointed !!

Great Album!

Her cover of The Cure's "Close to Me" is brilliant, and I don't like covers very often. The rest of the album is very good and easy to listen to. She has a beautiful voice and I'm lucky to have known her in college, I even got her to star in a play I wrote. She's a wonderful talent, buy the album!

A true American original artist!

In a total washout of the modern music industry feeding the nihilistic narcissism of the independent (synonym=lame) music is rare that someone like Pyeng comes along and offers her soul for everyone's ears. She is as refreshing as Alvin Yongblood Hart, Marc Broussard or Otis Taylor.
