A versatile EP that "still amazes"

Bjork is well known for showcasing a wide variety of b-side material, and upon examining the tracklist of this four track extended play, one might be skeptical that she's falling into the dangerous trend so many other artists are submitting to these days: rampant and repetitive dance mixes. However, this EP is a great example of how Bjork utilizes her various musical backgrounds to create a versatile collective of a single track. Simian Mobile Disco is a gem for dancefloor enthusiasts, highlighting a sketchy and elastic beat to the vocals, kicking up the tempo from the original recording. The Alva Noto mix, on the other hand, gives pleasure to the minimalist fan, creating a glitchy and soft resolves to the song, and doing what Alva Noto does best: remodeling. The remix is an interesting take on Innocence and gives emphasis to different aspects of the song, particularly the outstanding vocals and grunt sample found throughout. The Ghostdigital mix is more of an alternative electronic beat that sounds more like a high quality fanmix than anything else, mainly because it only adds an additional beat and layered sounds over what sounds to be the original track. It's very cluttered and hard to listen to at points, especially with Einar Orn's often unacceptable and ear-shattering vocals. The Simian Mobile Disco and Alva Noto Mixes are definite keepers, mainly because of their abstractions in regard to the original. As for the Stent Mix, skip it if you bought Volta, the only difference is the lack of cross fade into I See Who You Are. If you are a Ghostdigital fan or a Bjork completist, definitely go for the Ghostdigital mix, but new fans stay away.

Untouchable.

An astonishing EP of off-kilter electronics. Rubbery, elastic and wonky. Einar Orn, who was with Bjork during the Sugarcubes days pops up near the end of the "Ghostigital Untouchable Innocence Mix" and I was very surprised to actually love his usually grating vocals. Bjork is a genius and not any other artist out there can touch her level of creativity. Full of spunk!! I will be seeing her at Madison Square Gardens, NYC on September 24th when she ends her American tour. You are all allowed to be jealous.

A Successful Gem

this little EP/Single manages to add more depth to one of Volta's most energetic, powerful songs.

Björk first came to prominence as one of the lead vocalists of the avant pop Icelandic sextet the Sugarcubes, but when she launched a solo career after the group's 1992 demise, she quickly eclipsed her old band's popularity. Instead of following in the Sugarcubes' arty guitar rock pretensions, Björk immersed herself in dance and club culture, working with many of the biggest names in the genre, including Nellee Hooper, Underworld, and Tricky. Debut, her first solo effort (except for an Icelandic-only...
