iTunes Review

Tribal guarachero had already been bubbling in Monterrey’s club scene, but this was the electrifying, Diplo-endorsed set that made it a global phenomenon. House heads Erick Rincon, Sheeqo Beat, and DJ Otto splice the indigenous flutes and accordions of traditional cumbia with shuffling triplets, lather it with synths, and speed up the tempo to a frenzied pace. Songs like “Inténtalo” play hard to the dance floor (with gorgeous vocals by América Sierra), while “Amantes Guaracheros” heads into deliciously weird and hypnotic 8-bit territory.
