iTunes Review

With her usual diva flair, Kylie Minogue soars high on Kiss Me Once, an album that’s both sonically au courant and firmly rooted in her dance-princess past. For her 12th studio album, the Australian pop chanteuse enlists a bevy of A-list producers, including Pharrell Williams (fresh off his success with Daft Punk), Ariel Rechtshaid (Haim), and the electronica duo MNDR. The whoosh and throb of techno anthems like “Into the Blue” and “Fine” achieve a grandeur that matches their self-empowering lyrics. On “If Only,” Minogue reaches for divine love amid angelic swirling synths. Desire of a more carnal sort is celebrated in “Sexercize” (a sweat-raising track with a growling bottom groove) and “Les Sex” (hard-pumping and full of wink and slink). Both extremes come together on the Williams-produced “I Was Gonna Cancel,” a neo-disco effusion matching a frisky beat with thoughtful content. “Beautiful”—a duet with Enrique Iglesias—is the album’s standout ballad. Minogue never loses her sense of self amid these sonic costume changes, maintaining her consummate poise and essential sweetness whether the mood is funky, frenetic, or exalted.

really iTunes? you can’t put Kylie on the front page of the store??

no wonder why Kylie has not found mainstream success in the US when her new releases don’t even warrant a spot on the front page among all of the other dreck that has been out for weeks (how many more new beatles albums do we need to see on the new releases page!).

this song is AMAZING by the way.

Can’t Wait!

It’s a shame that Kylie’s only had two short-lived breakthroughs in the states, because she’s a pop superstar! Into the Blue is an absolutely incredible lead single, and I can’t wait to listen to the whole album.

Kiss Me Once...or twice or as many times you want

Into the blue is amazing,
It's everything a Kylie song should sound like.
Euphoric, fun, playful, addictive, amazing vocals, simply irresistible and extraordinary.
I'm sure Kiss Me Once will be an amazing album.
Long live Kylie a true warrior of pop and goddess of love.

On the one hand, in the pop music arena, worldbeaters such as Kylie Minogue are few and far between. Singers and performers of her stature and popularity rarely maintain their power for as long as she has. Her streaks of number one singles in both Australia and the U.K. are nearly insurmountable. And yet, on the other hand, her inability to really crack open the American pop market over the course of her career is a story that is heard all too often from groups hailing from nations as pop powerful...
