17 Songs, 2 Hours 18 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

There’s no mistaking Bassnectar’s 11th album for anything other than a gauntlet thrown. Representing the more breakbeat-minded side of an EDM movement affiliated with precision trance, the former metalhead grinds and bangs his way through tracks that quake and seize with fractious energy. Some songs offset the cataclysmic beats with bright melodies (“Into the Sun”), while others find fiery MCs to to echo the drama (“Speakerbox,” with vocals by Lafa Taylor). But everything hits heavy and hard, with bass drops weighty enough to crack the dance floor.
