Finally Some Real Hip Hop

Hands down one of the year's finest Hip Hop albums. Dope lyrics, dope beats, no nonsense. Check out the Gangstarr sample on I Mean Business. Pure Genius. Primo and Guru would be proud. Props to my man Dirty Dutch for showcasing these cats on the Indiefeed Hip Hip podcast. Do yourself a favour. Cop this album and get a taste of what real Hip Hip should sound like.

worth every penny of your $10 - at the very least

typically when i listen to music, it takes me a while to settle into an album before i can decide how i really feel about it. some of my very favorite works i had to listen to a dozen times before i finally got it. some i still hated, came back to a year or two later - and then loved it. taste evolves and all that - i accept that as part of my musical journey. but once in a blue moon, my patience is rewarded by effortless instant gratification. honestly, i didn't know what to expect when i heard of diamond district and of their debut, "in the ruff." i wasn't particularly optimistic - more just curious. i was really blown away - loved it, love it. it was the sole album on my playlist on repeat for a GOOD MINUTE. it's mean. gritty beats bang hard but still somehow remain melodic. i can prance around on my kitchen floor in my socks and STILL be gangster. life is good. thank you.

Comprised of two MCs, X.O. and yU, and producer/MC Oddisee (who has also released a handful of solo albums and produced tracks for Jazzy Jeff, among others, and is part...
