iTunes Review

Two veterans of California's thriving indie hip-hop scene, Eligh and Amp Life have been putting out next-level music since the '90s, rapping with the underground supercrew Living Legends and producing for Zion I (as well as Goapele, Del the Funky Homosapien, and Radiohead, among others) respectively. Therapy at 3 finds them joining forces for 15 tracks loaded with future funk beats and quick-tongued, seriously dense rhyme schemes. Amp's sonic creations dazzle with hyper-obscure samples, intergalactic electronics, and time signature–shattering drum patterns, while Eligh's rapidfire verbals sound like the offspring of Andre 3000 and Lateef the Truth Speaker. While probably a little too weird and esoteric to break into the mainstream anytime soon, this is a fascinating and highly original record. It’s ideal for listeners with more adventurous tastes and subterranean tendencies. Don't miss "Destination Unknown," "Beautiful Addiction," "What's in a Name?," and "L.A. Dreamers."
