Not for the faint of heart

For the seasoned Coltrane fan, this is a Monkish immersion into the mind of the great 'Trane. If you've ever seen Coltrane live, this will bring back memories of amazement that the horn can produce sounds like what is contained in this cd.

However, I do not recommend this set for folks who are just starting to listen to Coltrane. At times, when he is reaching his deepest levels of feeling the tune, the sounds will degenerate into screeching wailing that will grate the ears of the casual jazz fan. The cd does contain an amazing version of My Favorite Things that actually gives the great tune it's deserved attention.
