EDITORS’ NOTES

A North Carolina emcee/producer and founding member of The Justus League, Cesar Camanche has been dropping high-quality hip-hop for more than a decade now, debuting with Wooden Nickels in 2000. Though he remains somewhat slept-on in the States, he's increasingly popular internationally thanks to regular tours all over Europe, Asia, and beyond. He's been featured on records from Little Brother, Nicolay, Edgar Allen Floe, Eternia, and longtime homie 9th Wonder, and he's also an accomplished studio engineer, working on projects from Sean Price, Smif-N-Wessun, and fellow NC artist Supastition. Itch Remedy is his first release since 2009's Die in Your Lap. It finds him reuniting with DJ Flash for a six-song EP loaded with strong verses and neck-bending midtempo beatwork. Cesar's rhyme style is neither nerdy or thuggish; he's not a hipster or a wannabe kingpin, just a dope emcee rhyming about everyday life. Whether you're a JL fan from way back or just into good straightforward hip-hop, this is well worth a listen. Check out "Promise," "Take Heed," "Invested," and "Bring It Down."

About Cesar Comanche

Born in Jacksonville, NC, Cesar Comanche was introduced to hip-hop by his sister in 1979, and immediately fell in love with it. In 1996, while a student at NC State, Comanche met classmate Pat Douthit, who would later be known as producer 9th Wonder, and soon began working with him. In 1999 the two founded the Justus League Crew, an association of other rappers and producers from NC State and neighboring North Carolina Central University who often collaborated on each other's projects. Comanche left school during his senior year to concentrate more fully on his music, issuing 2000's Wooden Nickels and 2002's Paper Gods on his own Defenders of the Free World label. 2005 saw the release of Squirrel and the Aces (which was taken from the name of his father's band in the '60s and '70s) on ABB Records, also home to underground rap stars Dilated Peoples and Defari. ~ Marisa Brown
