Customer Reviews

beware

I haven't listened to the whole album, but i want to warn you that the snare drums in Ionisation (track 16) aren't given adequate microphone. in the beginning it'ss very difficult to hear them, sometime impossible. but varese is awesome, so i suggest listening to other tracks on this album or others.

Ionisation

I have only heard one track on this album - Ionisation. The mix on this recording favors some intruments more than others, but the overall quality of sound is musical and inspiring. The snare drums are tuned very differently which helps one hear the contrapuntal lines between them. (A nice gut sound on the field drum.) The lion's roar sound is excellent on this recording. The anvils are a little pitchy, but the beefy lows of the deepest bass drum, deep tam-tam, and the resonance of the room (it sounds like it was recorded in a symphony hall) together help to create an ominous soundscape.

Bad Recording Quality

I purchased Octandres from this album, and about a minute into the piece, the instruments sounded distorted. Purchase the album from Naxos. Much better sound quality.
