Album Review

Recording under the moniker You've Got Foetus on Your Breath, Jim Thirwell, aka Foetus, released his first album, Deaf, in 1981. Thirwell's eccentric trademark sound — a confrontational sonic tapestry based on harshly recorded instruments, noises, samples, and voices — is firmly established on Deaf. The songs are twisted heaps of sound that sometimes resemble Frank Zappa outtakes being pummeled to death by Einstürzende Neubauten — and Thirwell's scatological, antisocial lyrics only add to the bizarreness. If you've got the stomach for it, Deaf can be rewarding — but it's also a great way to clear the room at a party.

Foetus's first album is awesome!

New york or bust is a funny little noise thrash about new york people like andy warhol and david byrne. Is that a Line? seems to be saying what Bauhaus once said. That small talk stinks. It is probably my favorite along with Today I started slogging again, which is one of those songs I heard when I was younger, but didn't know who it was at the time. (also drops the name of the band) I've been fortunate to find alot of songsI remember from friends. With this artist and several others. Negative Energy is another song played by a friend of mine many years ago. I even remember him playing the 10 minutes of noise at the end. lol. Flashback is a great number too. I am surrounded by Incomptence speeds up dramatically after the intro and reminds me of a video game. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!! A must for industrialites!

P.s.:Many of Foetus's early release were e.p's or singles. Hard to find now. Limited number released. Itunes please work to correct this if possible. I know it depoends alot on the artist and record label, but I read somewhere that some of the foetus orignal eps and singles where due to be rereleased.

Despite the constant shifts in name (from Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel to Foetus Über Frisco to Foetus All-Nude Revue) and the less frequent variations in aesthetics (all focused around the same unforgiving sonic attack), the music manufactured under the prolific Foetus umbrella is solely the product of one J.G. (Jim) Thirlwell. A native of Melbourne, Australia, Thirlwell relocated to London in 1978, where he conceived the basic Foetus concept -- impenetrable panoramas of extremist noise built...
