Exhale ...!

Okay, okay, so I wasn't holding my breath (given their countless aborted fits and starts -- Sex Ambulance, anyone?). Their music did truly seem to be buried alive. But, here it is, and though I shouldn't say this, I will patiently wait however many years it takes for their follow-up album, because, turns out "Heavy Rotation" was worth waiting all that time for. Yes, some of the tracks are familiar, but isn't it remarkable that they are wildly and successfully rebooted almost ten years later? And yet learning to play nicely next to the new kids. Well done.

I'll let Rolling Stone dissect the finer points of "Heavy Rotation"'s production values, but I will say the following: Kevin (lead vocals, guitar) sings better here than on any of his previous outings and he, Jim (bass) and Erik (drums) fire together as intricately machinated pistons of sound that is THE ONLY way these songs can be played. And so in a strange twist of ironic tribute, we may someday find that the only band that can do a good job of covering The Fractals are The Fractals.

"Heavy Rotation" is dense both sonically and lyrically -- guess what everybody: you can think twice about the lyrics! - or - don't think about them at all, grab your "other", however significant and dance the night away (whether or not you take their clothes off). It's good enough to qualify as the end of end of their albums ... but I think you'll join me in hoping not.

This Album is Addictive

It’s hard to imagine anything I write in this review would present an accurate representation of the masterpiece that The Fractals have delivered with “Heavy Rotation.” After hundreds of listens already I continue to find myself coming back to reacquaint my ears in sonic exuberance. It truly appears to be an album without holes: songwriting, playing, production, lyrics…They all help to establish this album as a success with regard to taste and artistry. Despite the eclecticism that The Fractals bring to the table with influences ranging from Stevie Wonder to AC/DC, this album is easy to listen to from beginning to end. In fact, it's hard not to!

Great stuff

This album is great! Just the sound I expected!
