you can't go wrong at less than 7 cents a song!

This is an amazing compilation for an introduction to some of the all-time classic ladies of jazz or as a compilation to have to add to your collection. There are great songs done by the greats in their own inimitable styles. The backing music is super and with iTunes plus the sound is incredible. This is not necessarily a "greatest hits" compilation but more or a collection of great songs as interpreted by these great ladies. I especially enjoyed Billie, Lena, and Ella, but all of the 69 (yes, 69!) songs were memorable. I'm not sure if this is a mistake, or just a super bargain, but if you like this type of music or just want to explore female jazz singers further, snatch it up!

People, this is American music at its very best

The dynamic period between the 30's and the 50's bridged by WW II offers some of the very best music in history. The cruelty of segregation and racial violence and the harshness of the depression brought a sensitivity that was expressed in a melding of black and white musical cultures. (The radio made it happen; the media is the message.) That's not to say that black and white muscians played together although some did, but the shared experiences funneled through the brutality of the war caused a flowering of artistry only approximated since-maybe in the 60's? Ella, Dinah, Lena, Billie and Sarah-wow! Get this thing. It's only $12. There are almost 70 songs.
