iTunes Review

Chris Botti explores his ethnic heritage on Italia, an artful, orchestrally infused collection of originals, classical vocal/operatic works, film-score excerpts, and jazz standards. The trumpeter’s love of movie legend Ennio Morricone is revisited on two tracks: the tragically beautiful “Deborah’s Theme” from Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in America and the heroic “Gabriel’s Oboe” from The Mission. The soaring Botti-penned title track marks his first non-concert pairing with superstar tenor Andrea Bocelli, while he utilizes studio technology to duet with the late crooner (and Italian-American icon) Dean Martin on the chestnut “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face.” Botti shines as soloist on a pair of vocal pieces—the adult pop song “Caruso” (previously sung by Bocelli, among others) and Puccini’s “Nessum Dorma.” The deluxe edition features four bonus cuts, including Miles Davis’ “Flamenco Sketches” (with alto saxophonist David Sanborn) and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “If I Loved You” (from Carousel) with Paula Cole on vocals.

"Italia" A Delightful Tour!

Breathtakingly beautiful!! Transported me to the shores of Italy with the song "Italia" and the singing of Andrea Bocelli--oh my, just magnificent!! Love the two songs with Paula Cole--she communicates just the right emotional touch to both songs! "Nessun Dorma" is perfection! This CD is one that will be in the "replay" mode at my house for a long time! Bravo to Botti and the fabulous sound of his trumpet!!

Starting off, I may be somewhat biased due to the fact I have been a Botti since 2000. He has undergone significant growth during that period, and that is what makes "Italia" a great all around record. The mix of classics is second to none... Chris Botti's ability to get stellar guests on his albums speaks volumes to his ability. While all the songs are beautiful and showcase Botti's musicianship (esp. Venice, It Never Entered My Mind, AND the Pavarotti classic, Nessun Dorma!), the gems really are the duets. This album is a must have, and is perfect for those romantic nights. "Italia" really makes you feel like you are wandering the streets and seeing the beautiful sights of Italy. This 'deluxe' edition adds 4 bonus tracks, all of which are solid. It's hard to do a rendition of anything Miles davis, but Flamenco Sketches is beautiful...and with more Paula Cole, that is all the incentive you need to purchase this album!

My Grandfather would be proud.... It reminded my mother of her youth..... she almost cried! VIVA ITALIA!!!!!!!
