iTunes Review

The crux of Encores comprises 21st-century solo acoustic performances of Jimmy Buffett's 20th-century favorites, with very little (if any) accompaniment. In fact, 12 of the 22 songs are just Jimmy and his guitar. The other ten tunes feature spare backing by the random special guest or a few members of his band. And as the album’s title reveals, every song was recorded during the encore segment of different shows in the U.S. (as well as Paris) during his 2008/2009 tour. Ask any Parrot Head what the best part of a Jimmy Buffet concert is and they’ll tell you how he always saves the best for last — he himself likens his intimate encores to the dessert of a great meal. “Come Monday” opens with four elements; congas, steel drums and Jimmy’s guitar and voice. But it’s “Tin Cup Chalice” where you first get to hear just Jimmy and his six-string, revealing the true essence of the man and his music. Other notable performances include a breezy rendition of “Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans” with Allen Toussaint on piano as well as a festive cover of Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers.”

Good old Jimmy

I bought this download and it doesn't disappoint; quite possible because it is mostly the old Buffett tunes and not the new stuff. JImmy has gotten away from the tunes that made us love him, the songs of sailing, drinking and the great stories. Many could argue that he still tells a great story in his songs but its just not one I can identify with.

Jimmy at his finest

This album is not like all of his other live albums. A lot of the tracks feature just Jimmy or Jimmy and only a couple of bandmates. This album is a must have for anyone interested in Jimmy. It shows his true essence.

Just Jimmy and his guitar. I have been wanting this album like this for years. It's awesome. It's a must get!! "I am growing older but not up"

Jimmy Buffett translated his easygoing Gulf Coast persona into more than just a successful recording career -- he expanded into clothing, nightclubs, and literature -- but the basis of the business empire that kept him on the Fortune magazine list of highest-earning entertainers was his music. Born in southern Mississippi and raised in Alabama, Buffett moved to Nashville to try to make it in country music in the late '60s. After signing to the Barnaby label, he released one album, 1970's Down to...
