This Is The Goods

Don't know how many of you came across this but I guess since I'm the first reviewer, I want to tell everyone that I took the plunge and the sacrifice to be the first to purchase "It's a Heartache" off of this album. Since there are knockoffs of this song on iTunes I sacrificed so you guys didn't have to by buying the song off of this album. Listening to it with a critical ear I have to say that this indeed does seem to be the goods, the original studio song.

"It's a Heartache" came off of the album of the same name but yet had a different cover from what you see here. But still many of the songs contained here were off of the original album of the same name so that gave me hope that the "It's a Heartache" on this album could very well be the original and from what I can tell it is. So there ya go, I took the risk and spent a dollar so you didn't have to. Now hopefully you trust in what I say and get the song you want which is the original as far as I can tell.

Its a Heartache

Finally, the real deal. This is the version that was originally released and has finally arrived. Clearly the superior version and less stressed than the version on wings.

Early Bonnie Tyler

One minor warning--This album is NOT the original 1978 "It's a Heartache" album (that album was actually the US release; internationally, the album was known as "Natural Force").

With THAT out of the way, the songs ARE (as best as I can determine) the original recordings. But, it's a compilation of Bonnie's first four album releases--the albums she released before her 1983 teaming up with songwriter/producer Jim Steinman and the monster single "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and its accompanying album, "Faster Than the Speed of Night." While Bonnie's sound with that album was a definite turn to rock, this particular collection features a more country-pop version of Bonnie. Thirty of the tracks are from her first four albums: "The World Starts Tonight"; "Natural Force" (US title,"It's a Heartache"); "Diamond Cut"; and, "Goodbye to the Island." The track "Baby I Remember You" is a non-album song that's appeared on several earlier compilations (it also was included as a bonus track on a CD reissue of "The World Starts Tonight") and the song "The World Is Full of Married Men" first appeared on a soundtrack for a movie of the same name (the song was originally titled "Married Men" and was also recorded by Bette Midler).

For those who only know Bonnie from her bombastic 1980s songs, this is a decently priced introduction to her earlier years. Of the 40 tracks on Bonnie's first 4 albums, 30 are featured here (8 from her debut, 7 from her second, 6 from her third and 9 from her fourth). You can probably find all of these early albums--perhaps even on CD--but it's also likely that you'll spend at least as much for a single one of the four.

Before her well-known collaborations with Meat Loaf producer Jim Steinman, Welsh-born singer Bonnie Tyler (born Gaynor Hopkins) performed off and on in her homeland with the R&B band Mumbles; nodules on her vocal cords prevented her from singing full-time until 1976, when she underwent an operation to have them removed. The surgery left her with a raspy, husky voice that proved an effective instrument and drew notice from writer/producers Ronnie Scott and Steve Wolfe, who became her managers....
