iTunes Review

The serene Dan Graham cover photo is no misdirection: this is some relaxing music. The Garden State’s pre-eminent chillout band gets deeply mellow on their second album, but they never drown in a bottomless sea of reverb. Instead, Real Estate’s swirling guitars and wispy vocals strike just the right balance of sharpness and haziness, as on the gorgeous “Out of Tune” and the sparkling “Wonder Years.” Days perfectly conjures those sun-soaked July afternoons when you’ve got nowhere to go and nothing to do.

Remember the Summer? When Life was… Easy?

With much oh so sweet reverb and a relaxed tone of voice and guitar, Real Estate’s new album “Days” entices us to bring forth the sentimentality we each have within us, held in our unconscious so dearly. This new album is reminiscent of another time, a summer season so calm and without worry. The beachiness of Real Estate’s signature sound causes many of us to enjoy their music, but on this new record, we listeners cannot help but slow down and become united with the mellow harmonic movements. Indeed, one could not conjure up a better title to this album. With striking simplicity, the title, “Days”, is professed, yet within this word and the sound of the album, we come to realize that we are called to savor, to cherish, to enjoy, and to relish in these “Days”. Whether they be the careless, warm, lax summer days I imagine them to be or any others, the entire ambience and vibe of these days lie in the dreamy guitar riffs and vocals of this album. Please listen; find the days that captivate and capture you, when your life is slow and easy.

Summer Haze

Remember when you skipped school and went over the Cindy's house in HB and she was wear'n those jean shorts & ochre blouse from India and you could see the Pacific out the front window as she lite up a bowl of chiba a surf board leaned against a chair on her porch while her dog a Lab was hump'n the leg on a kitchen table to the sound of Quicksilver Messenger Service in the background and you said wow the surf's come in sets of three and she said yeah on a cloudless day too did I want anutter hit? and I said no but some shrooms would get me right on a day like this and she said just what the doctor ordered while both chewed on schrooms she picked in San Jose kids could be heard fly'n kites on the beach...well, this album's like that.

so chill

love this album, and much of your previous work as well. i just came across this band on princeton college radio a few weeks ago when i heard "green aisles" and i def. dig this music. It is laced with 60s-70s nostalgia and there is real talent here. ou wont regret checking this album out!

New Jersey's hazy indie rockers Real Estate feature Titus Andronicus' Martin Courtney, Etienne Duguay (who also records as Predator Vision), Alex Bleeker, and Matthew Mondanile, also of Ducktails. The foursome had played together in bands -- including a Weezer cover band -- during high school, but didn't become Real Estate until Courtney returned to the Garden State after attending college in Olympia, Washington. After forming in summer 2008, the band began playing live that fall and released the...
