Customer Reviews

A "must own" for true fans!

Well recorded, stripped down, "unplugged" versions of great songs. This is what I look forward to in the iTunes originals series. As far as the music is concerned, Sheryl Crow's entry is one of the best so far. Highlights include new versions of "If it Makes You Happy," and "Soak Up the Sun"that make it almost worth the $2 increase over previous iTunes originals albums. Crow also shares some illuminating stories on the people, and histories that shape her work, but the only reason this review is short one star, is that I find myself skipping over those tracks to get to the music. It'd be great if iTunes could figure out a way to easily filter the talking tracks out if you wanted to enjoy the music, and only the music. Crow is an amazing American songwriter and this collection is a "must own" for her fans.

Damn. She Did It To Me Again...

Over the course of the last decade, whether I've wanted to or not, I've bought every Sheryl Crow album I could find. It's not that I don't LOVE her music – I do. Often though, when I can least afford it, there it is; a new Sheryl Crow album staring me in the face, somewhere. In the studio, at the record store, on iTunes. Wherever. A new album from Sheryl, and me broke as a joke. My sub-conscience usually reminds me, though, of how much I've enjoyed some of her other music, and how somehow, I've usually ended up getting her new album. Which usually leads me to listen to a snippet (or ten) of whatever it is she's offering that's new. Which leads me to beg, borrow, or work extra hours to get some cash to buy her new album. :-D This time, I had an iTunes gift card from the holidays. Sheryl, if we ever meet, I owe you a drink. Anyone who tells stories about life through music the way you do, and catches my attention the way you have has definately earned their share of coin from me. Your songs, specifically though, deserve my thanks, my gratitude – and a long BS session over a good solid drink.

Too similar to existing Sheryl Crow material

A lot of the material here is already available either from iTunes (how ironic) or can be had from or other "Online" or "Retail" sources. I bought a couple of individual songs here but can't recommend the price for the whole album. The interview material if you are a Sheryl Crow fan you will have already read Online in "Fanzines" or in Rolling Stone magazine. Buyer beware.

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Sheryl Crow's fresh, updated spin on classic roots rock made her one of the most popular mainstream rockers of the '90s. Her albums were loose and eclectic on the surface, yet were generally tied together by polished, professional songcraft. Crow's sunny, good-time rockers and world-weary ballads were radio staples for much of the '90s, and she was a perennial favorite at Grammy time. Although her songwriting style was firmly anchored to the rock tradition, she wasn't a slave to it -- her free-associative,...
