Album Review

Jo Stafford's Happy Holidays is one of the better Christmas albums to play during the holidays. Her beautiful croon fits these selections perfectly, as they are almost all more up-tempo, jazz influenced numbers from the last century. Her voice is especially good on the slower numbers, more specifically on "Christmas Song," "Nearness of You," and "By the Fireside." It is here that her voice takes over the song, bringing out the melancholy and power of the songs easily. Any fans of jazzy vocal music should give this a chance; it really is quite good and showcases a fine talent that has a gift for singing Christmas music.

Great 50's Christmas music

This collection contains the tracks from Jo Stafford's LPs 'Ski Trails' and 'Happy Holiday' from 1955 and 1956. Great arrangements and some Winter-themed tunes. BTW the first and last tracks are different, the last being a reprise version of 'Happy Holiday'.

I loved The Nearness of You

For clarity, I only got the Nearness of You song. This is an absolutely beautiful song, sung by an amazing beautiful singer. The richness of her voice in this title is beyond compare (inho), I'll be looking for more of Jo Stafford.

Hanover Winter, It Happened In Sun Valley, By the Fireside

Although I love Jo Stafford and this album, I have many of these songs already by her and similar artists. The songs I purchased are GREAT WINTER SONGS!! It's worth collecting for the songs I purchased or the entire album. It'll bring back wonderful memories and feelings!

One of the most technically gifted and popular vocalists of the immediate postwar period, Jo Stafford effortlessly walked the line between breezy pop and the more serious art of post-big-band jazz singing. With the help of her husband, top-flight arranger and Capitol A&R director Paul Weston, Stafford recorded throughout the '40s and '50s for Capitol and Columbia. She also contributed (with Weston) to one of the...
