iTunes Editors’ Notes

The best way to approach Beady Eye's second album is to try to forget that it's basically the product of Oasis minus Noel Gallagher and embrace the Liam Gallagher–led group as a band unto itself. Despite the choice of Dave Sitek (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio) as producer, precious little American alt-rock influences creep into the sound here. Instead, Beady Eye stay in touch with their '60s psych-pop inspirations, though with a touch more textural frisson than before. BE is a true collective effort, with Liam and guitarists Gem Archer and Andy Bell all pitching in on songwriting. A distinct group identity emerges as things move from the storming, stomping garage rocker "Face the Crowd" to the mix of spare, slinky syncopation and big glam-pop hooks on "Second Bite of the Apple" and the floating, folk-rock-in-outer-space feel of "Don't Brother Me." Regardless if BE entices anyone to forget the former band of Beady Eye's frontman, it's a flavorful slice of psychedelia-kissed modern rock all on its own.

Customer Reviews

Great

One of the best recordings i have heard this year. Every song is good. I can't recommend this enough.

Really!!!!

Oasis needs to end this bull*h*t and make up and get back to the greatest bands in the world instead of wasting time on this

Finally, yes!

Finally iTunes, thanks! What took so long for the U.S. release? Great album and massive follow up to the debut album. Give it a chance and it will grow on you. After all you will be humming the songs in your head. It is addictive, with bits of The Beatles and classic rock influences. Production of this album is top and from my personal notes, you could almost hear bits that could fit on any Radiohead or even Sigur Ros albums. It is a new sound and some early Beady Eye or Oasis fans may find it a bit strange, but this exact aspect makes this sound so good. Liam's voice also sounds great there, so over all it is a great album. Try it and you will love it.

Years Active: '00s, '10s

British alt-rock outfit Beady Eye formed in 2009, several months after the rivalry between Oasis siblings Liam and Noel Gallagher reached a boiling point at a summer festival, resulting in Noel's departure and the band's dissolution. That fall, Liam and three of his former Oasis bandmates — Gem Archer, Andy Bell, and Chris Sharrock — booked studio time with producer Steve Lillywhite to begin work on a new album, with plans to release the first single under their new moniker in November...
