iTunes Review

Packed with notable collaborations from Jack Johnson’s annual Kokua Festival in Hawaii, this collection boasts a who’s who of folk, reggae, and rock musicians cross-pollinating their unique talents. Ziggy Marley and ukulele great Paula Fuga unite Jamaican and Hawaiian culture on the tender plea “Cry Cry Cry.” Latin funk collective Ozomatli and G. Love get the dance party started with the playfully groovy “Mudfootball.” And when Willie Nelson, Ben Harper, and Johnson turn honky-tonk classic “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” into breezy tropical pop, you can practically feel the palm trees sway.

Some artists make good albums, Real artists jam...

Is this new Jack Johnson material? No, it isn't. Are they great covers by Jack Johnson featuring other great artists of our time? Undoubtedly! With regard to the "cash grab" and other disparaging remarks, the people who post them are missing the point. Any band can make a cue-filled and carefully-planned studio album. Most bands then show up at a concert and regurgitate the album. Truly great artists, though, take their album material, improvise with chill-inducing jam sessions, and take things to a whole new level. This category includes artists like Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, the Avett Brothers, Phish, and, of course, the Grateful Dead. Real fans of these musicians and others like them know the real magic happens when it's played live. If you're among this esteemed group, this album is for you.

To folks calling it a Cash Grab

100% of the profits from this album are going to the Kokua Hawaii Foundation.. same spot all of the profits from the Festivals went. 100% of the profit from his last world tour went to charities too.

Classic Jack Johnson

A great collection of artist - Taj Mahal, Willie, Eddie Veddar, Dave Mathews and Jackson Browne. Wonderful, takes you to a place where the sun shines, the water laps the beach and a few cold ones taste REAL good. If you are a Jack Johnson fan, I highly recommend.

Before Jack Johnson became the 21st century kingpin of beachside pop/rock, he was a champion surfer on the professional circuit. The sport was second nature to the Hawaiian native, who began chasing waves as a toddler and, by the age of 17, had become an outstanding athlete on the Banzai Pipeline. However, Johnson was also testing other creative outlets -- specifically film and music -- and a serious surfing accident during his first professional competition convinced him to devote more time to those...
