Editors’ Notes

Jagged Little Pill is a sonic boom filled with sexual rage and romantic recrimination. Whether Morissette is ripping into a craven lover ("You Oughta Know"), accepting life's eternal unfairness ("Ironic"), or embracing her own confusion ("Hand in My Pocket"), she sings with unmistakable honesty. A dose of alt-pop passion from an artist who holds nothing back.

Complete Review (track by track) of the best album ever!

If you have never heard a song from Alanis, you are in for one of the best treats EVER with this album. I am very very picky about albums being good or bad and I always look for filler tracks. "Jagged Little Pill" has 0 fillers and is seriously one of the best if not the best albums of all time. You WILL NOT regret buying the entire album. Here's my review- Track by Track: 1) All I Really Want- Quite possibly my favorite track on the album. It has a great sound, and sort of funny (" Do I wear you out, my sweaters on backwards and inside out and you say how appropriate"). Truly an amazing track: 10/ 10 2) You Oughta Know- An anthem. You get chills from hearing her angry lyrics about her past relationship with actor Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone on "Full House"). BUY IT! 10/10 3) Perfect- This song was the first she ever wrote on the album. She wrote it and recorded it within 20 minutes! It is about the pressure and pushing that adults put on their kids. I've actualls heard people tear up when hearing this song. Just brilliant. 9.5/10 4) Hand in my Pocket- Great, great song. It still plays on most mainstream radio stations across America even today, 14 years later. 10/10 5) Right Through You- This song I always have called "so Alanis" because I swear it just sounds like and Alanis trademark. Great song, but not the strongest on such an amazing album. 8.5/10 6) Forgiven- A song about her growing up Catholic. One of my personal faves, but maybe a tad bit unoriginal. - 9/ 10 7) You Learn- Another heavily played mainstream song. A fantastic hit about the many experiences that teach us. - 10/10 8) Head over Feet- This song grew on me like crazy. I used to hate this song, but now I find it as one of JLP's best. If you are just spending a few bucks on Alanis songs- this one is a good start. 9.5/ 10 9) Mary Jane- Somehow I think of it as a very epic song. Yes there are a lot of songs about some troubled girl, but this one is a very strong track.- 9.5/ 10 10) Ironic- Just BUY it. This is her most successful song, and one of her many briliant works. Click "BUY SONG"! -10/10 11) Not the Doctor- This song would have been VERY successful if it was released as a single. Another song about a guy, but way less angry then "You Oughta Know". 10/10 12) Wake Up- Though I find this to be the weakest track on JLP, it still is a good song ( "so get up, get up off of it, and wake up!" ) -8/10 Alanis is my favorite singer and JLP is IMO the BEST debut album by an artist ever- if not the best album of all time. You WILL not feel robbed by purchasing any of these tracks, so seriously just buy them! Go Alanis!

Forget Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears...

No pop album will ever compete with this. It is one of the most well-known and critically acclaimed albums ever made. The singles are all amazing. Ironic and You Oughta Know are my favorites. Hand in my Pocket is really catchy (nice harmonica solo too) and All I Really Want is just plain fun. Also, her voice isn't digitally synthisized unlike the untalented Katy Perry. Also, her lyrics are great and just plain fun. :) Overall: If MJ is the "King of Pop," Alanis is the Queen.

Singer/songwriter Alanis Morissette became one of the most unlikely stars of the 1990s on the strength of her third album, Jagged Little Pill. A former child actress turned dance-pop diva, Morissette transformed herself into a confessional alternative singer/songwriter in the vein of Liz Phair and Tori Amos. However, she bolstered that formula with enough pop sensibility, slight hip-hop flourishes, and marketing savvy to become a superstar. Jagged Little Pill, released in 1995, spun off six highly...
