iTunes Review

Wyclef Jean takes the global gusto of the Fugees’ debut, The Score, several steps further on his first solo album, rhyming earnestly over a wide range of boom-bap, reggae, calypso, and Latin rhythms. Sonically, the album is as eye-opening as a trip around the world, but topically, it's still deeply rooted in hip-hop. Wyclef is as proficient a narrator on third-person, ’round-the-way crime stories (“Bubblegoose”) as he is on romantic struggles like the frank open letter “Gone Till November.”

I almost forgot how much I like this album

When this album came out, I must've listened to it about 300 times. Every song is different and great in its own way. Then I went to college and lost the album. I just bought it again when I started listening to the samples on iTunes. I'm glad I didn't just forget about this and in 40 years not have it in my playlist.

Excellent album

The album has the overriding theme of being a trial against Wyclef, hence the numerous interviews. Each song is very unique and almost every song is fantastic. I have a tendency to not like the songs on the radio as much, but even knowing this I still think that Gunpowder is the best song on the record - very Marley-esque.

Best and must have. As a yardie I give wyclef nuff respect for this album he doesn't abandon his roots to suit anyone. Instead making an album which defies critics and satisfies fans.

Lead Fugees rapper and sometime guitarist Wyclef Jean was the first member of his group to embark on a solo career, and he proved even more ambitious and eclectic on his own. As the Fugees hung in limbo, Wyclef also became hip-hop's unofficial multicultural conscience; a seemingly omnipresent activist, he assembled or participated in numerous high-profile charity benefit shows for a variety of causes, including aid for his native Haiti. The utopian one-world sensibility that fueled Wyclef's political...
