EDITORS’ NOTES

Here’s a group of nuns who clearly have a lot of fun when they sing together. Recorded in their chapel in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Dominican Sisters of Mary send out their Christmas message with a nicely chosen program of festive carols and hymns. Their voices are pure and light, and they sing with wonderful clarity so that you can hear every word. Their “Gaudete” is, not surprisingly, a far cry from Steeleye Span’s unlacquered classic, but, in its innocence, has its own beauty. “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” (with organ) is attractively unfurled. A gently appealing collection of obvious sincerity.

I'm biased

because I am their religious brother in the same Order of Preachers. But the music is beautiful and it helps me celebrate a fuller Christmas. I'm happy my sisters shared this album with the world.
