iTunes Review

At first blush this Texas foursome might be classified as a well-scrubbed harmony combo a la Rascal Flatts. But the group displays enough guitar abrasiveness and rhythmic heft to separate them from the pack. Judging by this album, co-leaders Mike Eli and James Young have been listening to classic rock and Americana acts as well as current country hit-makers. “Famous” has the romantic angst of early Springsteen, while the atmospheric jangle of “Radio Waves” recalls REM’s first albums. Those hankering for a taste of Eagles and Poco-style L.A. rock will find traces of it in “When it Rains” and “Enough is Enough.” The lyrics often transcend typical country clichés, with “Guinevere” standing out for its portrait of a music-obsessed young woman. When they want to, Eli Young can rock convincingly, as evidenced on the twang-heavy “Throw and Go” and the swaggering title song. Jet Black & Jealous straddles the line between mainstream and alternative country modes and for the most part the results are impressive.

this is what happens when nashville gets involved

expected big thing from this band and they fell flat, very vanilla album with 2 bright spots, Home and how should i Know are the only songs worth paying for. The others aren't bad, just very forgettable. they Lost that cool groovy sound that made them popular, None of the songs on this album can hold its own with Level, a great CD by the way. If you like Rascall Flatts you'll like this album, if you Like Wade Bowen, Randy Rogers, Blue Edmondson you won't.

Come back to Texas!

I really like EYB...bought their earlier album Level and was hooked! Listened to it until the CD wouldn't play anymore. I just bought this album and have been listening to it for a few days now, but I'm sorry to say it's not worth it and I'm ready to use it as a coaster. I don't know what the "major label" has done to you guys, but there's something missing from this album. Glad ya'll got the attention you deserve, but it seems you've lost your sound because of it...guess we can't all have our cake and eat it too. I'm going to listen to "So Close Now"....

A Big Fan, A little disappointed

I am happy to see EYB get signed by a big label and hopefully make the money they deserve. This album for the most part is good with songs Enough is Enough, Guinevere, and How Should I Know. However, it just doesn't capture the true sound of EYB. I'm still a big fan and EYB is a very talented band just hope they bring back the true sound of EYB in their next album.

Fusing a young man's take on heartland rock with the tougher side of Texas country music and the cocky enthusiasm of alt-country firebrands, the Eli Young Band have become a potent draw in the Southwest on the strength of local airplay and extensive touring. The Eli Young Band's story began when Mike Eli and James Young both enrolled at the University of North Texas and found themselves sharing a dorm room as freshmen. Both played guitar, and the two new friends started writing and singing songs...
