Musical path

I dunno what to feel about this one. I fell in love with Shearwater when I first listened to Rooks, and upon listening to the folk/ambient/experimental style of their early albums, seeing them transition to more rock with Animal Joy, followed by an album of covers in Fellow Travellers (to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised with their cover of Coldplay's Hurts Like Heaven), and now the new wave-esque/electronic influences (that many other bands seem to be doing) has me split.

I really enjoyed this track; it is pretty catchy. But I thought Animal Joy and Fellow Travellers were only a phase the band was going through before returning to their roots. Hopefully the rest of the album turns out good.

great album, so please it’s finally available!

I’ve listened to this album several times now, and it’s excellent. I like the electronic sound; reminds me of Berlin-era Bowie, along with lots of lesser pop bands from the early 1980s. JM’s lyrics have matured considerably. My favorite songs are “Backchannels” and “Stray Light at Cloud’s Hill."

Five Stars

After listening to the full album I can say this work is Shearwater's best effort. Fellow Travelers nearly lost me, not because it's bad but I just don't see a point in releasing an album full of covers. But Jet Plane and Oxbow has solidly regained me as a Shearwater fan. Song writing is great and varied and voice is optimal. I can listen to this with my Apple Music subscription, but I also chose to spend the $ to purchase the album MP3 for my ipod (yes some people still use ipods), and to support the artist. Please keep making great music like Jet Plane and Oxbow, Shearwater!

Originally conceived as a one-off collaboration between Okkervil River's Will Sheff and Kingfisher's Jonathan Meiburg, Shearwater continues the tradition of detailed, reflective songwriting set by classic artists like Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen and contemporary indie rock songwriters such as Bill Callahan and Will Oldham. The group began after Sheff and Meiburg had known each other for just a week, with the idea that the duo wanted to make an album called The Dissolving Room. The pair exchanged...
