iTunes Review

If there's one virtuosic singer out there who can take on songs as tried-and-true as Christmas carols and still make them unquestionably her own, it has to be Barbra. Between her iconoclastic personality, magnificent voice, and nimble interpretive ability, she makes these age-old classics sound like we've never heard them before. She darts rapturously through a playful, tongue-in-cheek version of "Jingle Bells" at one moment, and yanks at our heartstrings the next with her swelling, evocative rendition of "Silent Night."

One of the best Christmas CD's EVER!!

I grew up listening to this CD...wrapping rooms full of presents and memorizing every lyric, of every song! This is simply of the best Christmas CD's I've ever owned. My personal favorites are "Jingle Bells" (Barbra's own version), "My Favorite Things" (A Classic), "The Best Gift" (which was her new child - which she is pregnant for on the cover of the cd) and finally "The Lords Prayer". A MUST BUY.

simple phrase

pink amaryllis says this album is "more traditional than I would have liked". Christmas IS traditional !! Streisand was 25 years old when she recorded this album, and it remains one of the best ever recorded. She somehow makes the songs seem fresh and new again. I was 17 years old when I bought this album, and 45 years later I still listen to it every "traditional" year. Her phrasing on The Lord's Prayer can only be equaled by Mahalia Jackson, from whom it seems the arrangement came. This, my friends, is a Christmas album.

Nice but too traditional

I love Streisand but I suppose these interpretations are just more traditional than I would have liked. Streisand is nonetheless one of the greatest voices of our time and so this album is still very good and very pleasant to listen to. She has a beautiful tone to her voice and brings the requisite reverence to the songs.

Barbra Streisand's status as one of the most successful singers of her generation was remarkable not only because her popularity was achieved in the face of a dominant musical trend -- rock & roll -- which she did not follow, but also because she used her vocal skills as a mere stepping stone to other careers, as a stage and film actress and as a film director. Born in 1942 and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she struggled briefly as an actress and nightclub singer in New York during the early '60s...
