iTunes Review

This 50-track greatest-hits set from one of the founders of rock ’n’ roll deserves to be in every serious music fan’s collection. It's the same exact track listing as the later collection Gold: Chuck Berry and features all 28 songs that appear on the exemplary The Great Twenty-Eight collection. So for music fans who want to go beyond Berry's essential hits but prefer not to venture as deep as The Chess Box or the various “complete” anthologies of the different eras, this is a great spot to rest one’s head. Berry wrote the book on early rock, including every guitar player’s arsenal of riffs (Keith Richards invented his own style only after mastering Chuck’s). Berry's literate standards like “Roll Over Beethoven,” “Rock ’n’ Roll Music,” and “Johnny B. Goode” fattened up every bar band’s repertoire for decades (and counting). The addition of lesser-known tunes such as “Too Pooped to Pop,” “Jaguar and Thunderbird,” “Dear Dad,” and “Tulane” give this set depth beyond the obvious.

Rock & Roll Music

If you just happen to be one of the 5 billion Chuck Berry fans out there, then this is the album for you. If you do not number yourself among the legions of Berry followers, you probably are, and just don't know it yet. Everyone, and i mean Everyone, has heard at least one of these classic songs, and this is the perfect compilation for fans. I could say that it's a little much for the casual listener, but since everyone who's ever started as a "casual listener" turns into a fan when it comes to Berry, i would suggest they go straight for this compilation as well.

Handsome Brown-Eyed Man!

Chuck Berry invented "rock 'n roll" by mixing R&B with a guitar sound straight from T-Bone Walker. This is the source of Rock. Buy it RIGHT NOW!!!! Peace.

Chuck Berry rules!

Chuck Berry is one of the most important and rockin' guitar players of all time! If he never came along, there would be no Beach Boys, no Beatles, no... nobody! This guy is so good it almost scares me. I reccomend "Johnny B. Goode," the sequel "Bye bye Johnny," "Back in the USA" and "Roll over Beethoven." CHUCK ROCKS!!!!!

Of all the early breakthrough rock & roll artists, none was more important to the development of the music than Chuck Berry. He was its greatest songwriter, the main shaper of its instrumental voice, one of its greatest guitarists, and one of its greatest performers. Quite simply, without him there would be no Beatles, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, nor myriad others. There would be no standard "Chuck Berry guitar intro," the instrument's clarion call to get the joint rockin' in any setting....
